Services we offer

Tree surgery and felling

Tree surgery and felling is a service designed for tree surgeons that wish to try and safely resolve any tree related issues without resorting to felling.

Stump removal and grinding

Stumps are removed by using mechanical stump removers or high-pressure water jets depending on the size of the tree being cut down, with all stumps then ground out by one of our specialist tree surgery contractors into small chips which can easily be turned into your garden/landscape as topsoil.

Milling

Milling involves the process of tree surgeons first felling a tree and then sawing the tree into boards of the required length, with the tree being cut in half if it is too large for one board.

Dismantling

Dismantling involves our tree surgeons dismantling trees that have died or been damaged beyond repair by removing any dead wood from within their structure to allow us to remove sections without having to use chainsaws.

Crown reduction

Crown reduction can be carried out when you wish to reduce the height of your tree but do not want to lose vital canopy/branches during the process. This service also ensures that all materials removed are chipped up so as not to leave unsightly logs lying around your property, which may cause harm should a tree fall in the wrong direction.

Crown lifting

If you have a tree that is situated very close to your property or within it, crown lifting can be carried out safely and professionally whilst preserving as much of the canopy/branches as possible.

Crown thinning

This service is perfect for tree owners who have an over-crowded tree canopy that has become unsightly or unbalanced. During crown thinning, we will remove the exact amount of foliage required to create a more aesthetically pleasing tree.

Dangerous tree removal

If you are having problems with trees falling in your garden or on your property and causing damage, this may be why it’s time to call Glasgow Green Tree Surgeons! We can safely remove hazardous trees from properties throughout Glasgow.

Emergency tree services

Emergency tree services are also provided by our team of tree surgeons in Glasgow, who can provide immediate assistance when it becomes necessary for the safety of people or property. If you need any advice on tree surgery, contact us today!

Planting

Planting can be used to replace tree species if they have been lost due to disease, environmental circumstances or even damage caused by property owners.

Branch and limb removal

We can remove tree branches and limbs that may be broken, damaged or diseased.

Coppicing

Coppice is the practice of cutting tree trunks down near ground level to allow multiple new shoots to grow from the stump. This can be used as an alternative to replanting trees if they have been lost due to disease, environmental circumstances, or even damage caused by property owners.

Pruning and shaping tree crowns

Pruning techniques help maintain tree health, which helps reduce risks posed by rot, fungus growth and infestation when it comes time for dangerous tree removal services. This will also strengthen the overall structure of the tree and its branches.

Hedge management

Hedge trimming is the process of cutting tree branches and limbs down to a certain height or cut level. Hedge management helps keep tree growth in check, which can also prevent trees from encroaching onto the property or causing issues that may need dangerous tree removal services.

Pollarding

Pollarding is a process that tree surgeons in Glasgow, like the team at Green Tree Surgeons, carry out to help keep tree growth at a manageable level by cutting tree branches back to certain points along their trunks. Pollarding is most commonly done on trees with very high crowns or tree branches growing away from buildings and structures because of their impact on surrounding areas.

Woodchip removal

Tree surgeons in Glasgow, like the team at Green Tree Surgeons, carry out woodchip removal services that help keep tree growth at a manageable level by cutting tree branches back to certain points along their trunks. Pollarding is most commonly done on trees with very high crowns or tree branches growing away from buildings and structures because of their impact on surrounding areas.

Ivy removal

Tree surgeons in Glasgow, like Green Tree Surgeons, carry out tree services such as ivy removal, woodchip removal, and dangerous tree removals that allow trees to be kept at a manageable size.

Frequently asked questions

u

What are the responsibilities of a tree surgeon?

The tree surgeon is responsible for carrying out tree work such as pruning, removing trees and providing felling services.
u

What is a Conservation Area (CA)?

A conservation area or “council green belt” are areas of land which have been authorised by Scottish legislation to protect buildings and structures because of their impact on surrounding areas.
u

What is a Tree Preservation Order?

A tree preservation order prevents damage being done to any tree up to 30 centimetres in diameter at chest height unless it has written consent from your local council under section 14 (d) of the Act. This does not apply if you live outside Scotland-However, owners still need permission before they can carry out any work that will cause serious damage to a tree.
u

What about the rubbish that is left over?

Cars can be parked close to tree trunks, and if someone parks too near, it could cause serious damage. If the tree trunk is nicked or scratched by a car, then areas of bark will become exposed where diseases can take hold more easily. Also, tree roots are very shallow at this depth, which means they cannot support large structures like buildings with foundations that push them upwards into the ground as there is not enough root structure in place to counterbalance such weight.
u

What is the best time of year for tree work to be carried out?

When tree work is carried out in the right season, you are less likely to encounter problems such as tree disease and insect infestation. It also reduces competition from weeds, which grow more easily during certain seasons.
u

I want to prune a tree, but I live in a conservation area. What should I do?

You will need to obtain permission from the tree preservation officer.
u

Do you have insurance?

Yes, we are fully insured for tree work. All of our staff are also trained members of Stelios (STMS), which is a professional body that has its insurance and offers indemnity in case anything goes wrong whilst carrying out tree surgery or other arboricultural activities on your property.
u

Do mature trees need special care?

Yes, tree surgery teams can also provide tree inspections to help you determine whether your tree needs special care or should be removed.
u

How long will I have to wait to have the work done after I have accepted the quotation?

Typically, we aim for tree work to be carried out as soon as possible, but the tree surgeon will need access to your tree for a minimum of two hours.
u

Do you provide free quotations?

No, but we do offer free tree surveys once the tree preservation officer has permitted you to carry out tree surgery.
u

Will you actually turn up on time?

Yes, all planned dates are written in our diary and are available for viewing online. We have a very high customer satisfaction rating, so there is no reason why we should not show up when promised.
u

What is LOLER?

LOLER stands for The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998, which sets out safety requirements that must be followed when working with lifting equipment during tree work activities such as pruning or felling trees in your garden.
u

How Much Does Tree Surgery Cost?

Tree surgery costs vary depending upon the type of tree work being undertaken, but tree surgery prices start at £45 per hour.
u

Can I use the wood chips from my trees?

Yes! Wood chip mulch can be used for planting new shrubs and plants. It’s a great way of amending soil quality because organic material has been removed from it previously by tree roots. Mulched areas will retain moisture better than bare ground, allowing your new plantings to stay healthy longer between watering too. If left on top of the grass, then blades won’t grow through, but if applied around established bushes or trees, then their root system will take up some nutrients.
u

Why should I hire a qualified arborist?

Many tree owners decide that they can carry out tree surgery themselves and save money in the process. However, there are many problems with this approach: first of all, you may not have the necessary knowledge or equipment; second, your liability insurance may be invalid if trees on your property are at risk of falling objects (which could injure people). As well as looking after their interests, tree surgeons also take into account public safety when carrying out tree work. There has been an increase in accidents caused by inexperienced homeowners who try to climb tall trees without any training or climbing gear, which leads to serious injury and even death.
u

How can I tell if my tree is hazardous?

Unfortunately, it isn’t always obvious when a tree is unsafe to be around, so you should have any trees that are close to buildings or public spaces examined by an arborist who will advise on whether the tree needs pruning and how much cutting back would need to take place.
